2008 Featured Artists

Josh Kelley
July 4, 2008 - 8:00pm to 9:30pm (http://www.joshkelley.com)

Kelley broke through in 2001 on Hollywood Records with “For The Ride Home”, an album that showcased his no-nonsense expressiveness and disarmingly genuine delivery. These qualities were exemplified in the top five smash “Amazing”, and follow-up top ten hit “Everybody Wants You”. In early 2004, he left Oxford, Miss. for Los Angeles where he interacted with fellow songwriters and players, further refining his skills while determining where he wanted to take his music next. It all culminated with the sessions for his second Hollywood Records album, “Almost Honest”.

Josh Kelley has maintained a high media profile over the last several months, appearing on the Emmy Award-winning NBC talk show Ellen, performing on Good Morning America and delivering a soulful rendition of the national anthem at NASCAR’s Sony HD 500 as well as the home opener world champion Chicago White Sox game. He performed most recently on ESPN’s Cold Pizza. The touching title track of Almost Honest was also featured on the hit series “Smallville”. Kelley will also be featured in the digital soundtrack for the hit TV show “Scrubs”.

Tyler Hilton
July 6, 2008 - 2:30pm to 4:00pm (http://www.tylerhilton.com)

Singer and songwriter Tyler Hilton started in music early, the product of a musical family that kept him curious about playing guitar, singing, and performing. By seventeen he was writing his own songs, and had become an open mic fixture in his hometown of Palm Springs, California.

In 2000 Hilton wrote, recorded and released an eponymous debut and began to shop it, but it was a chance opportunity that brought his talent to the record execs' attention. That same year an impromptu performance over the phone for KLOS Los Angeles morning personalities Mark and Brian landed Hilton a spot at the station's Christmas concert. The exposure helped catch Maverick Records' ear, and the label signed him soon after.

As his music career was progressing, Hilton also looked into acting. He joined the cast of the WB teen drama One Tree Hill in 2004, playing a troubled singer named Chris Keller. Hilton also landed the role of Elvis Presley alongside Joaquin Phoenix' Johnny Cash in the 2005 biopic Walk the Line. One Tree Hill was a great promotional platform for Hilton's Maverick debut, which hit shelves in September 2004. Tracks of Tyler Hilton was an engaging blend of pop and mild Americana influences, led by Hilton's husky, likeable vocals. (It included the song "Glad", which he had performed as Keller on the series.) In early 2005 Hilton embarked on his first tour in support both of Tracks of and the freshly-released One Tree Hill soundtrack.

Sister Hazel
July 6, 2008 - 7:00pm to 8:30pm (http://www.sisterhazel.com)

Formed in 1993, Sister Hazel is an acoustic jangle pop band based in Gainesville, FL, featuring vocalist/guitarist Ken Block, guitarist/vocalist Andrew Copeland, lead guitarist Ryan Newell, bassist Jeff Beres, and drummer Mark Trojanowski. The group released an eponymous debut in 1994 before moving to the majors for their second album, Somewhere More Familiar, in 1997.

The track "All for You" topped the adult alternative charts that summer, nearly reaching the pop Top Ten as well; its success pushed the album to gold sales status and a Top 50 chart position. Sister Hazel returned in the summer of 2000 with the follow-up album Fortress, again released through Universal, and scored a minor radio hit with the song "Change Your Mind." The album failed to match the band's early success, however, and Sister Hazel was no longer with Universal by the early 2003 release of their next album, Chasing Daylight. They returned a year later with Lift, and despite Sister Hazel's absence from the airwaves, the group continued to cultivate a respectable grassroots following. Absolutely appeared in October 2006.

Keaton Simons
(http://www.keatonsimons.com)

When considering the roll call of rock’s most influential icons, those rare artists that pose a triple threat are the ones that consistently stand out, musicians that seize the spotlight through their singing, songwriting and instrumental prowess. That hallowed breed of musician has become increasingly less common in popular music, so it’s especially worth noting that Keaton Simons also qualifies as a triple threat, given that his multifaceted talents have garnered him a presence on radio, television, film and the concert circuit. It’s an especially auspicious distinction for an artist who is only now on the cusp of releasing his debut album, the prophetically titled tour de force, Can You Hear Me, on CBS Records.

You can see Keaton Simons on the Craig Ferguson show on June 23rd.
